About our Sons of the American Legion

The Sons of The American Legion (SAL) is a proud pillar of the American Legion Family, dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans. Composed of male descendants of those who served in the U.S. military during eligible periods, SAL members work side-by-side with Legionnaires to support veterans, foster patriotism, and sponsor youth programs in their local communities. Marking an exciting new chapter in our community's commitment to service, the local Lawton Post 220 officially formed its very own SAL squadron in 2026. This newly established chapter invites eligible sons and grandsons to join their ranks, carry forward the legacy of their family's military service, and make a meaningful impact right here in Lawton.

Chad Hackenberg

Commander

Chad Hackenberg is a descendant of Clarence “Pete” Hackenberg (grandfather), a Legion officer and WW2 veteran, and Randy Hackenberg (father), a legion member and combat veteran in Vietnam. Chad has been employed in the tooling and automotive industry for over 26 years as a Design Engineer and also earned his Firefighter II and EMT certifications serving on the local fire departments for 12 years. The proud father of his daughter, a Lawton graduate, Chad currently resides outside of Lawton on a 3rd generation family farm focusing on locally grown food and custom butchering.

Dan Ziemer

Vice Commander 2

Dan is originally from Eaton Rapids and moved here with his wife in 2024 to be closer to family. He is a proud grandson of a World War II veteran serving on a Destroyer Escort in the Coast Guard. Growing up Dan spent a lot of time working in his father's engine machine shop and creating a passion in engineering. Since moving to the area, Dan and his wife have jumped right in to supporting their community by joining the Lawton Lions Club in addition to the Sons. When he is not volunteering, he enjoys participating in World War II reenactments, driving around his fully restored 1968 Pontiac Firebird, or spending time with his wife and daughter, who join him at most events.

Kevin Cook

Adjunct

Adjutant Kevin Cook, Kevin's father served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. Kevin is a longtime resident of Lawton and has been a devoted member of the lawton Fire Department for 38 years.

John Streeter

Historian

Son of Lyle Streeter, Post 220 commander, John began volunteering with Post 220 in 2024 and held his wedding with wife Maria Streeter in the depot in June of 2025. Since 2023, John has donated more than 1500+ volunteer hours including: restoration and renovation efforts, holding chairman of the annual golf fundraiser committee (2025-Present), co-leads the effort to modernize the legion with a website, digital payments methods, wifi, and more.
